Artist Ben Daye has turned the 300,000th G-Class into a unique work of art and applied his spray style to the “G”. The result: It's as if the terrain has seeped under its paint like a tattoo.

First fashion, now style.

As a teenager, Manchester’s Ben Daye began painting his friends' sneakers at their request with unique and bold patterns. In so doing, he transformed conventional trainers into design objects and soon sparked the interest of the public. "The objects I designed became bigger and bigger. And in 2015, a friend asked me if I wanted to paint his G 63." Ben Daye didn't have to think long – and went wild on the off-roader, with resounding success: "The photos went around the world. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook – the artwork was admired and commented on en masse everywhere." Ben Daye had achieved the feat of turning an icon into a very special one-off.

From fan to designer.

The G-Class has always stood for individuality – especially when dressed in its wild couture of dust and mud. Ben Daye, however, upped the ante on originality. It was a matter of the heart for him. “I've adored the G-Class since the 90s. I was a big rap fan back then, and some of my idols drove a G-Class.” Since then, the off-roader has never left him. He particularly loves its “aesthetic, timeless appearance”.
